VIP Soccer Program

AYSO Region 97 is proud to have a VIP soccer program.  The AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer experience for children, and adults, whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams.  These kids are Very Important Players (VIP) in AYSO.  AYSO recognizes that all children need to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance.  The VIP Program offers that acceptance and carries the AYSO philosophy of "Everyone Plays" to new heights - giving everyone a chance to play, including, but not limited to, the blind or visually impaired, amputees or mobility challenged, the mentally or emotionally challenged, children with autism, Downs Syndrone or Cerebral Palsy. Children with special needs are estimated to make up approximately 10% of the school-age population.  The VIP program has been structured to integrate our special kids into the rest of AYSO by using "buddies" from non-VIP teams to help these players both on and off the field.  Our goals for participating players are to have fun playing soccer, understand the fundamentals of the game, learn teamwork and fair play, increase positive self-esteem, become more physically fit, and meet and be comfortable with new people. VIP helps more than just the players.  Buddies and other volunteers increase their appreciation and understanding of individuals with special needs.  These volunteers find their lives greatly enriched by their involvement with VIP friends.  VIP soccer gives parents the joy of seeing their children play a sport and make new friends.  Everyone wins with VIP soccer.
