Take time this year to help each of the players on your team feel like a soccer star for at least one week. The Daily Pilot accepts our weekly contribution of soccer game reports for the on-line edition of their newspaper and may occasionally get them in print.
Sound like fun? It could be. Hopefully each team will have at least one write-up during the season, but it is up to the coach or team reporter, a parent volunteer. You are also welcome to send a story each and every week.
During the game, just jot down a few notes. Who scored? Did someone assist? Who played great defense or showed some fancy footwork? Who made a great pass, cross, or save? Maybe it was one huge kick or a fantastic throw in. Everyone has at least one shining moment every game.
After the game on Saturday or Sunday, write up a brief game report. Please indicate the division (BU5, GU12). Be sure to include the name of your team and the opposing team if possible. We do not keep score in under 5, under 6, under 7, or under 8, but include the score for U10 and older (except in the spring when we do not keep scores in any recreational games). Write a brief description of the highlights of the game, including each player’s contribution. You do not need to be an accomplished writer, but do try to spell the players’ names correctly.
Example:
Tigers vs. Purple Stars (GU8)
Abigail Miller, Paige Norton, Alyssa Allen, and Mackenzie Morris all scored goals for the Tigers. Tina Denton posted a great assist. Making defensive plays and turning away scoring attempts were Madeleine Frank, Marcy Miller, and Lauren Knowles. Alex Lamb made 2 key saves in the goal.
Email the story to pamgarrett@roadrunner.com by Monday night at 8:00 pm. The stories for the entire region will be compiled and sent together by division.
If you have any team photographers, they may also send digital pictures to be posted in the Photo Gallery to this same email address: pamgarrett@roadrunner.com. Please include the division for all pictures submitted.
